A Saturday Road Trip
March 9th 2019
I think I should be talking about the wind and rain, if it's not both it's just wind. You do know what we get here is what you get just in a different form. Woke up later than usual and decided to take a trip, our first trip this year.
I took this picture that shows the sun coming over the mountain and hitting the tops of the palm trees. Since there is little to eat, we are keeping less food because we will be home by Friday morning.
Clela made french toast.
We got dressed and stopped at the ABC store for gas and we are off. Coming into Lahaina we started to hit heavy traffic, more then usual.
What happens is they build four lanes, two each way and merge them down to one. Then because of small turn lanes sometimes this slows down traffic. They keep building on to resorts and very little with inter structure. Anyway, this was not that bad. It took us about an hour and a half to reach Paia. We always put this place in our island travel. Part of it is the old hippie feel, lots of art and what we now call hippy dippy. Now don't get me wrong what you see is also expensive. Clothing is very high end as well as jewelry and art. Can't stop us from looking and sometimes we buy. New places in old stores pop up all the time. I just saw that our Gelato store has moved.
It's time to eat. Most times we go to the Fish Market for lunch but today we went across the street for Mexican food.
The place looks huge but it is not. Most people liked to eat outside, but we were hungry so we went inside. Hey it was 1:30 and you know me I'm a noon lunch and 6:00 supper kind of guy so maybe I needed to eat.
I had a cheese Quesadilla and it was good.
Clela had a pork taco ,lots of food. The food was good. Something new. Notice that all the resturants are using paper straws After eating we went to
Hookipa Beach Park. The wind was so intense and so were the waves. At this park we watch the kite surfers jumping over huge waves. Don't forget to click on these pictures are amazing.
There are some people go down on the rocks to get close to the waves.
Some of the crazies turn their backs to the waves. Bad idea.
We even saw someone swimming in these huge waves to catch a wave. When he did he would ride the top of the wave or body suicide surfing. Okay I added suicide. It was crazy. The first time I saw him I thought he lost his board. There he was catching waves and body surfing. We are talking about 15 to 20 foot waves. When he did catch on the wave would throw him maybe 50 feet.
There were turtles and seals below on the beach area. We tried to drive down there for pics but there was no place to park. So we headed back to our condo. Talk about traffic jams, we were in one huge backup. It started in Kahului all the way to just outside Lahania. It took us two and a half hours to get back to our condo. The Kahului Airport rents out 2000 car a day and they keep building new resorts. Too crowded! Well that was our day.
See you soon.
