Baby It's Cold Outside

Baby It's Cold Outside
 February 28th 2019

Look at this picture.

The sun is shining, a slight wind is blowing and it's cold.  I"m sorry, I know the type of weather your having back home.  Your saying tomorrow is the first of March and there is no sign of spring.  We are having trouble staying warm.

It's 8:30 and there is no one in the pool.  If you zoom in on the last picture you see a dad pushing a stroller.  One thing you'll see early in the day is fathers with young kids.

We got up late today so by this time we were able to eat on the balcony.  If at all possible we try to eat outside.  Now if your eating warm food it all gets cold quick.  We didn't have much to eat so we improvised a little.  We went down stairs to get a bagel only to find out bagels were all sold out, thus Clela got a cinnamon danish and I got a blueberry danish.

That was our breakfast.
After breakfast we put our coats on and headed down to search for whale.  Once again in the protection of the resort it was okay, cold but okay.  When you turn the corner the wind hits us with a gush, strong and cold.  Alright we were prepared and found two lounge chairs and sat down.  There was a few rowers in outriggers.  The waves at times were over the top in height hiding the boat.  We sat there for about an hour.  While there, some people stop to talk.  Lots of people stop when they see my Wisconsin hat.  A man and his wife went to Madison and are living in Dubuque.  No matter where you live you're always a Badger fan.  Saw another couple from Wisconsin who taught at Nicolet High School.
Not seeing any whales we went inside and sat in the center of the resort.

So there we are sitting in the sun with our coats on, Clela with her hood up sitting right out there.  We didn't care what people thought WE WERE WARM. When we got up this is what we saw.

No won in the center area.

Two kids in the pool.  That was all.  Everyone went inside.

Couple people around the pool and some in the hot tub.  The temperature tonight will be 61, I know it's not 8 like your having.  We are use to warmer temps, so 61 is cold.

We decided we wanted to go to Lahaina for lunch.  We needed a fish taco and what better place to eat than at the Fish Market.

There are large benches in the middle and small tables on the perimeter.  We could have eaten outside, ah no.  They have changed the fish taco, but it still was good.  Can you believe it, we gave our table to a Michigan State Spartan.
After lunch we went in a few stores, ones with art and crafts.

We love this store.

I have been looking for a small dish.

I always look for new projects.

What can I say, a little pipe bending, some wood and you have a chair.

After going to Safeway for some food (we forgot milk) we went back to our condo and took a short nap. Hey we're old.
Clela made dinner and once again she out did herself.

Pork chops, potato's, applesauce, that green stuff, okay cheesy spinach.  That was our day. See you soon.

Wind, Wind And Cold Wind

Wind, Wind And Cold Wind
We are eating inside again because it is cold out there.

Clela, knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  Scrambled eggs, Canadian beacon, toast, strawberries, juice and most of all coffee.  We have gone through two dozen eggs.  Yum!! We got dressed and headed down to the ocean and were greeted by sunshine and warmth.

When we got to the corner of the ocean the wind was blowing so hard we had to hold on to our hats.  The wind was cold. I took one picture of the waves coming in.

I can never create what it looks like or the sound as the waves keep rolling in.  We didn't even make it to the place we like, where we have some shade and we have a great view.  We went back and found two chairs and sat down in the shade of a palm tree. We did the lounge chair shuffle, you know where you keep chasing the shade.
We have plans to take a picnic at Fleming Park.  So we packed our food and went to the park.
When we arrived we knew the winds were strong so you turn your hat backwards so the wind can't catch it.  most of the people in the water were boggy boarding.  So we put a towel down.  The picnic tables are made out of concrete.  We took our chairs to hold down the towel.  the wind hollowing as we put our food on the table.

Instead of baggies Clela put our food plastic containers.  Chips would blow away fast, thus contain everything.  When we finished, we debated if we should drive back.  We stayed, only problem is I'm getting cold.  Clela said let's put the towel around our back and head.

Remember don't click on the movie because it won't work.

This really worked for awhile.  We did some people watching.

After sitting like this for about a half hour we packed up and headed back.  We made one stop at the at the farmers market store for some more fruit and then back to the condo.  We took a rest and then wanted to go down and watch a sunset.  We put our jackets on and watch some NBC nightly news. About 6:10 we headed for the door when Clela look outside and it was raining.
Lets eat.  Clela out did her self, better than last night.

Well that was our our day.  See you soon.

Going Shopping

Going Shopping
This morning as I walked out on the balcony to take my morning to take my picture of the day.  I was greeted with a cold wind.  There was nobody swimming in the pool.  There was a light rain falling.  When I took a pic of the pool, low and be hold there is a guy sitting, cold, raining and wind blowing.  Some people are going swimming no matter what, I'm here for a week and I will go into this pool.

.
Needless to say we ate indoors this morning.

Today we decided to go shopping.  So off we go to the Whaler Mall.  We like this mall because of the different place's to eat and some good places to shop.  Our first stop was the ABC store.  Clela likes to put things on paper, so that is what we bought along with of course a matching pen (my idea). There is one store we always stop at because of the wood items for me and the glass works.  The store is a very high priced store.  Just to give you an idea you take a five dollar night light and paste a small laser cut wood piece and sell it for forty dollars.  Don't get me wrong some of the wood boxes are worth their price along with the art work of glass blowing.

After going through this store we were off to eat.  Clela has been trying to get me me to eat at Joey's.  They have been updating this mall for several years now making it hard to get down there.  It's not one of those high price restraints I like to go to, after all sometimes these shops offer better food.

Clela had Cabbage, pork and rice. I had a cheese burger.

I had one of those cheese burger that if you put it down you will never be able to pick it up again.  You know the ingredients that slides out. The type that requires at lest three napkins.  When you are finished your hands feel like you changed the oil on your car.  Okay I used to do that about twenty years ago.
I am looking to buy a new hat so that was what I was looking for.  I'm looking for a solid light gray hat with the states fish on it.  Can't say what it says how ever just ask Reagan.  It didn't find one. Clela did convince me to buy a Gelato. It's funny we both picked the same flavor a tiramasu.  My excellent has wore off on her, right.

Back to the condo we went.  We went out for a walk with a light mist falling even though the sun was shinning and it was warm.  When we got to the corner by the ocean the wind hit us with a blast.  We saw two lounge chair down on the end of the property and sat down.  Then the light Hawaiian rain became stronger and the wind picked up.  Now Clela had her jacket on and I didn't.

Clela has her hood up and I have these large bumps on my arm.  When my teeth started to chatter we said that is enough. What were we trying to prove.  So off we went and as soon as we turned the corner the rain stopped and no wind.  Up stairs we went and just stopped for a minute and took these pictures.

You can see I went out to the car and put my jacket on.  The big smile is because I"m warm now. At dinner I had Ziti and Clela had the rest of her lunch.

Oh didn't I tell you we did make a small stop to buy some cookies.

A good way to end the day.  See you soon.

Doing The Same Things

Monday February 2-26-2019
Doing The Same Things

It's hard to tell by the first pic of the day.  Most mornings are overcast. Then you turn around and the sky is clear and it's a perfect day.

Wait, wait it's going to change.  It was so warm we could eat out on the balcony.

At Safeway we bought a large container of a mixture of strawberries and blueberries.  By the way a median container of strawberries cost nine dollars.  Clela and her Safeway card we payed seven dollars.  We sliced up strawberries, added yogurt and granola. That's breakfast.  We did have an English Muffin with butter and jam on top.  What you don't see is my juice.  If you ever watch me eat something dry, for every bite I take, I must take a drink.  I know I don't need to do that, but that's how I roll.
We do the same things when we are here.  We like to watch for whales and we have a favorite beach.  Today we went out to see whales.  We  ended up watching kite/surf boarding.  Sorry no pictures, just video.  Video doesn't work on my blog because  the high quality can't compress.  The video file is two large.  Maybe I'll put them some place on line so you can see.  There were two men out there.  Each doing different things.  One had a board with a long fin under his board. I have seen this before in pictures but never in person.

What is foil on the bottom does is it allows the surfer little water resistance and what you see is the surfer looks like he is flying through the air.  Looks like they use different kites also.  Very neat to see.
The other surfer on a traditional board and kite.  He was a very good wave jumper.  He also could fly through the air.  With the wind conditions were just right for this type of surfing.  They both had lots of air time.

By the way this video will not play.

We ate lunch and went to our favorite beach, doing our thing.

We finally saw an red headed cardinal .  This is the first time we saw this cardinal this year.
We did take a walk on the beach.  We went down where we have seen turtles before.  Maybe they come certain times of the year.
After spending several hours we went back to our resort.  Clela packed our towels because she wanted to take a swim.  We were just preparing to swim when, for some reason, she saw a full breach off  our shoreline.  What made this so unusual is that this whale was so close to our beach.  I dug out my phone and off I went.  Clela said don't wait for me, so off I went.  I got there just in time to see some tail slapping.

We went back to the pool and took a swim  The air was getting real cold, when we went in.  Swimming for us is a few short swims and just walking around.  Getting out was a real challenge.  It was cold.  That is a sign of the colder weather coming.

Don't clich on the video. You can sit behind the water fall.
Hey can you see the ice forming on the pool? Just kidding, but I'll be sure to pack a sweatshirt next time.
We ate left overs for supper.  We did face time with Sam and Alyssa and that was our day.  See you soon.
