The Mountain Tops Of Molokai
This morning was overcast, but as I was preparing to take a daily picture and I notice the tops of the mountain were clear.  Also the sun was shining on them.  You say soooo.  The sun wasn't shining here.  I'm sorry I couldn't get a good picture but here is what it looks like.

Zoom in just beyond the palm trees.  I wish there was a camera that could capture what you see. Okay what do I expect from a phone camera.  Fifteen minute later "shazam".

Okay maybe it was a half hour later.  What magic.
It was so nice we ate breakfast outside.

I slipped the top of my breakfast so you could see what is inside. We had scrambled eggs, Canadian bacon, American cheese and topped off with a slice of tomato.  For the first time we had a mango for our fruit.  Yum!!
Our plains for today was get down to the ocean early so we could find two lounge chairs.  Low and behold we found three.

Looking out there, the tide is really down.  I could see there is a flat ledge, so I planned ahead and had my water sandals on. I went out to investigate.  I could now look both ways up and down the beach.

Now I know there are three reefs running parallel to the shore.  You could,'t see the third one but there was a shadow out there.  The sun really helps.  And yet you can't believe the damage to the shoreline.  On the first reef it first looked like sand but because of idiots like me it's just brown.  Okay being close to the beach and exposed to the air it was dead along time ago.  

You can see the edge of the reef.  The total height is about six inches.

I also notice there small holes in the reef that holds small rocks and if you look real close some holds have small fish swimming around.  Just looked in the above pic. and nothing there.  I guess if your going to talk about it you should have a pic.  Okay I promise I'll get a picture.  Once again in one ear and out the other.  Getting older or should I say in my case more mature, you do know I plan on living until 105.  If you can survive to a hundred and five look at all the thrills out of being alive if you are among the young at heart.  A verse from Frank Sinatra.  I bought the 45 record when I was about twelve.  We had a record player but didn't have the adapter to play it.  Finally we got that adapter and I could play my record.  Back to our day.

We got back to our condo, ate lunch and rested (nap) until about three. We put our swimming (shits) spelling error caught by Clela who laughed so hard she cried.  Should have said suits. On and then made a drink. 

Then headed for the pool.  Finding no lounge chairs in shade, we went to the center area and found two chairs under some palm trees.  We should come here more.  We stayed there until five.  While packing up we heard music.  I asked Clela where it was coming from.  She said there is live entertainment at the oceans pool.  When we got there we found out they were playing inside the restaurant.  We sat down and listen to the two women playing.

Lets see if we can here them playing.  Well I tried but I couldn't upload the voice file.  Oh well let's hope that someday blogger software will work on sound and videos.  I think my video is so high res.  

Next we planned to eat out (Clela plans everything).  She is up for hire.

Yup that is right.  That would be food trucks which are along the road just outside our resort.  I don't know how long the will last because they are right out in front some very expensive resorts.  I thought there would be no one here.  Was I surprised.

There was no place to sit it was crowded.  We ordered quesadillas and burritos which we took back to our condo.  

Great meal, not that cheap but much less than eating in a restaurant.

One day in February

One day in February

This morning was beautiful.  Going outside the weather was warm with a gentile breeze.  

Clela decided we would have granola and fruit for breakfast. First we got two bowls and started adding papaya.

Next she added sliced apple bananas.

After adding the bananas  she scooped in yogurt.  

One bowel had pineapple and the other strawberry for a fruit.  Add some granola to the mix.

Toasts, and juice and there was our breakfast.  After breakfast we decided to get an early start with out whale watching.  Low and behold there was and art fair in the lobby. A couple of years ago Clela brought her hat  here.

This is were she bought her hat.  Off to the ocean we went.  You know every day there is just so many chairs out, so get there early and you will be rewarded with two lounge chairs.  

The tide was out so there was more beach for people to walk along.  The ocean was more rough today.  You and also tell when some one has very little experience on their long board.  Yesterday a guy was trying to head in and he kept falling off his board. He would start by grabbing the back of the board and then trying to shimmy up.  He just didn't count on another wave coming in.  There was no problem of drowning because he could stand up.  

We decided to go into Lahaina for lunch.  We went to four parking lots and they were all full.  One lot is huge and down by the harbor.  Even our special lot was full.  We would pay four dollars to park all day.  We ended up paying ten dollars for three hours.  Went went to Cheese Burger in Paradise for lunch.  We have got to expand our choices.

I had cheese burger.  After eating we walked around a bit before heading back to our condo.  We took a break and played some cards before eating supper.  Clela is winning so far.  Oh you know we did have a nap in there.

For dinner we had chicken primavera and of course, wine with our meal.

Twenty Four Hours

A lot of things change after just twenty four hours. Yesterday we had wind that was blowing so hard a couple kids were challenging the wind as they walked.  Funny to watch because their steps were hard to take.  The wind caused the rain to blow horizontal.  We went from 

that dark, dank, dreary day to the picture below.  Zoom in on the edge of the ledge, 
you will see brown water that is polluted. 

Do the same on this picture and you will see clear water.  Usually the polluted water stays around for several days.  

This morning I woke up to a beautiful day.

Don't get the wrong idea, there is a lot of damage on Maui.  For the first time in a while, we eat outside. It was that was warm.

This morning we had french toast.

Also our papaya was ready to eat, yum that is so good.  I read the paper during breakfast.  Okay my two areas of reading  are business and sports.  

Our goal for today was to get down to the ocean to look for whales. There were a couple that were active, but not as many as usual.  We always try to find some shade, we didn't find much. Clela had the shade,  I had partial.  The weather was perfect.  I found myself just sitting back. I am laying in the sun, there is a light breeze blowing in the partial shade of palm trees.  I close my eyes while listening to the waves rolling in.  This was a good start to what I hope is a good vacation.  Can you see it?

I had to take this picture to show our beach is starting to come back.  Okay that is not much compared to what it used to be, but more than we have had in years.  You can see the place is changing to more families with small children. This is what we call the kids pool.  

Lunch today was a pull pork sandwich with potato salad.

After our rest, okay nap, we put on our swimming suits and went for a swim. This was the first time this year. I didn't take any pictues.  We didn't stay very long.

For dinner we ordered a pizza. Great pie.

Just A Rainy Day

We woke up knowing it rained hard all night.  With the wind blowing, if you didn't know it was raining, being from Wisconsin you would think there was a blizzard out there.  When we got up it was still dark out so you couldn't see much.  The birds started chirping about this time.  Hundreds of birds always flock each night to rest and sleep. Every night  they all seem to wake up at the same time.  Well this morning, we had a big thunder boom which scared all the birds and they all flew away at one time.  No eating out side today.  The Today Show was just starting

when we started eating breakfast, a cheese omelet with some spam is a good start for the day.  By now we could see outside.

It doesn't look that bad out there.  The local weather reports were showing roads closed and flooding.   We spent  the morning around the condo most of the time doing laundry.  Time flies when you are busy.  It rained all this time sometimes with wind blowing creating horizontal rain.
Around eleven we went to Safeway to get a few things. Then we went to a small store in the same place the Farmers Market takes place.  It's a store that has original Mexican food.  They also make and sell their food.

I ordered chicken tacos and Clela ordered pork tacos.  Off we went to eat back at our condo.

Now doesn't that look good.  The small containers contained a hot sauce.  The paste could take your breath away.  My kind of food.  The hotter the better.

Later in the afternoon Clela and I took a walk around the property,  Walking on the grass was like a sponge.  I wanted to see what the stream  and what the water looked like.

 To our surprised there was a man walking in this brown polluted water.  Another surprise was his kids were wearing Green Bay shirts.  What you see is runoff from farms, you know farm animals.

This water might be around for some time.
Walking back we could see the restaurant was prepared for a bad storm.  The building looks like what you would do for a hurricane.

After dinner we notice the clouds started to open up just in time for sunset.  I only wish I was out by the ocean to see the sunset.  However I did take some beautiful pictures of the sun reflecting off the buildings.

It changed the color of the buildings.  It was beautiful.
