2016 Clela's vacation bucket list

Good morning to you. Here is a new look at our morning.

This is were all the birds roost.
Breakfast

Just scrambled eggs with salsas, papaya, toast with jelly that we bought with us. A couple years ago Chris and Brad gave us a Christmas gift of food around the world. The package arrives each month with food samples. I think the jelly came from Spain. We do like to put jelly on toast so this jelly was a good travel size. Clela also packs coffee, creamer and sugar just for that first morning cup of coffee in paradise. That way we can have a cup before we go out for breakfast and go food shopping.
Vog
We have Vog this morning. Vog occurs when there is volcano eruption, the wind in the right direction ( from the big island) and fog. So fog and ash creat Vog. There is an island behind those people.

It's hard to see but two people who are paddling on long boards. Even tho it's hard to see we saw a mother wale teaching her baby how to breach the ocean. How do we know it was a baby you ask. It was the size of the two. Like looking at a bus and a Chev Spark car breaching out of the ocean.
We were setting here Clela reading a me working on the blog when a women start taking pictures of our non beach. As she came up we started to talk. After some small talk about the weather Clela asked her were she was from she said Virginia and we said Milwaukee and she said were in Milwaukee I was born and grew up there. We said we're not from Milwaukee but Sussex. She met her husband while working for GE medical. Her husband is from Waukesha. Small world.

Clela's vacation bucket list

Before coming to Maui Clela made a list of things she wanted to do. Here is her list.

She started the list last year. As you can see we have checked a lot with a week to go I think we'll make all items on her list. Today we accomplished two of them. The fist one today we ate lunch at Star Noodle. She found this on Trip Advisor. She had a map but we kept going in circles so we used GPS.

Just a small place in an industrial area. Now I've got to tell you I had misgivings about this place. Well was I wrong. The parking lot was full and people were sitting outside. We had a 45 minute wait but if we would sit at the bar we could get in sooner. We chose to sit at the bar.  I think we waited about 15 minutes and we go in, and don't you know there were tables to set at. We sat down by a husband and wife from Chicago.
Take a look at the plate on the table. No fork, no knife and no spoon. Just chopsticks. My food arrived before Clela's. I ordered Kinchee Raman noodles. Okay I can do this with chopsticks.

See I told you so. No problem. Well if you look close I just opened the sticks and scoped up noodles. I ordered a good non alcoholic drink of cucumber lemon limeade. Clela's food arrived about 15 minutes later.
She ordered Singapore noddles. She also can use chopsticks.

My chopsticks broke and I had to ask for forks. The was so much food we took the rest back to our condo. See that big dude over Clela's shoulder, he ordered the same thing I did. He took those chopsticks and broke them apart. He went through that bowl and eat the whole thing. He picked his little spoon and drank all that juice.
Clela's next bucket list was a new beach. It's about 6 minutes from our condo.
Kahikeli Beach Park
It's located near the Whaler Village. This translates to money and private. However this is an public beach.

I always thought you could never match Florida gulf side beaches but here we are beaches that stretch as far as you can see each way. If you zoom in on the rock outcropping you are at the Sheridan Resort.
You look the other way and the beach goes up to the resorts next door.  There is a beach walk that goes all that way.
I think Clela and I will make a picnic and park our bodies right here. Next to this spot there is some private homes like this one.
Now I know I'm where I should be.
Well that is our day. We drove back to our condo. We had leftovers for supper. What a great day. Stay tune we have more of Clela's vacation bucket list to cover and you will be there to see her wonders.
See ya

2016 Ocean

This morning I thought I would show you a different morning view.
The sun always comes up here before it arrives on our side of the condo. But as you can see it is another beautiful day. I looked at the temperature in Sussex and it was 61 our temp this morning was 64.
Breakfast

We had breakfast outside this morning.  No pictures we were in a hurry to go to church.
Lahaina Church
We went to the United Methodist Church in Lahaina. This church has an Tongan flare. The Minister is Tongan and the choir is Tongan as well as members of this church. When the service is over everyone holds hands in a circle  a Hawaiian Aloha in Hawaiian is sung. I just stand there, move my lips like l know what I'm singing. Lincoln thought me how to preform like this.
You can go to church in shorts and sandals.

Arts and craft show

After church we went to an Arts and Craft Show at a community center. Here again no pics. I guess I'm losing it. Anyway there is a lot to look at in a short space. Your mother bought several earnings. Women were going crazy buying jewelry.  There were bins and bins of jewelry. I think some were parts for making jewelry all in silver. They were spending between $40 and $50 a crack and there were lines waiting in line to pay. Ah gene where was your camera. Sorry.
Lunch

We got back to the condo and had lunch. Okay I've got pictures of food but none of crazy people.

Clela really makes good sandwiches just like a Sunday at home. I've got my paper and lunch.
Ocean

Here I am sitting by the ocean writing my blog and the Oscars have started. We DVR it or in our terms we taped it so we could watch it tonight. I can't miss this beautiful scene. There is something calming just setting here with the roar of the ocean and the beauty in front of you.

Okay that's beach erosion. We are seeing lots of whale today, yesterday not so much. Hey this this the tree I bumped into. I had to go back and make sure the tree was ok.

Family pic time. Here is a strange one.

See that guy. He goes down there and just lays in the water. That's the second time he's done that. After setting there for a couple of hours we desired to go swimming. Does that sound familiar well that's our day. Swimming is good for us as is the weather. It's all good for the bones.
Supper and the Oscars

We went across the street and got a pizza from Paradise Pizza.  Now we are watching the Oscars and you are going to bed after seeing who won best picture.
Well that is our day, I promise to take more pictures tomorrow so you won't have to read my jibber. See ya

2016 Maiued Out

Maiued Out
Maiued out is a condition that is physical and mentally. Some people have said that about me. Maybe you have had it and didn't receive help for a qualified consultant. I just happen to have a RN who works with people and can recognize the symptoms.
1. Mellowed out. You just want to set by the ocean
2. You know what you want to do, but you can't decide when you want to do it.
3. You tend to stare at nothing
Now take me. The ocean is calling me. Gene, Gene come to me. Did you hear that. Gene, gene. Should I  go to Lahaina and buy that bowl or should I go down to the ocean. Should I take my shower and get dressed with my swimming suit or with my clothes. Lahaina in the morning or Lahaina in the afternoon. Stay tuned.
Another great day

A lot of nonsense before breakfast.
Breakfast or good breakfast to you
Coffee first than I'll talk........ Okay I can talk now. Here is breakfast.
Granola with banana and organic milk squeeze with my own hands. You have raisin bread and a half of a papaya. Now that was a lot of food.
Lahaina
We decided to go to Lahaina about 11 to buy that quest bowl. We went to the harbor end to find a place to park free but when we got their the lot was full. So we found the next lot up that was parking for the harbor. This lot was full and as we were leaving we saw a family coming in. So we waited and waited it seam like for ever and they started to leave when the man rowed down and gave us a ticket for three free hours. Just when you think bad thoughts about them an act of kindness takes place. Just  shows you don't judge to fast on people.  As we were walking we saw the the art show was going on under the banyan tree.  So off we went.

We went up to the store and fulfill our final quest of this year. Had a long talk with the owner again. Nice guy. We talked of the fragile ecology of the island. I told him I was a tech Ed teacher and my type of woodworking was furniture and I could do anything without plans. He said he took one woodworking class in high school and didn't do well.  The difference between us is he is an artist first. He works with feel and touch but still has perimeters like making the bowl too thin. He said he breaks one in twenty. Some of his work is so thin you can shine a light through it.  I'll show you the bowl later. After leaving a fisherman walked up with his catch of the day.

Three yellow fin tuna. I have only seen that once before. Can't get much fresher than that.

Lunch Good lunch to you
We had two more stops before going back to the condo. One was lunch and the other was stopping at Barns and Noble. We ate at Teddys Big Buggers. Nice place, family type. We were at the opening day a couple years ago. They that a look at us and say are you  Kamaʻāina and we say yes we live here one month a year and they say good enough. He knock four dollars off our meal. Well we were waiting for our meal we saw this at a table near us.
Now that is one big Hawaiian. I wonder how long it took to make that tattoo. He was having a birthday party for a child. He bought food for at four or five tables. I thought could he be a decent of IZ
Kamakawiwoʻole. When he got up to sing I knew he was not a son of IZ. Big guy with a good heart.

After eating and going to Barns and Noble so Clela could get another book in her series we drove back to our condo.  Our AC shut down again so we had to wait for maintenance to fix it. Not a AC expert all he did was turn off the power at the junction box and turn it back on and walla its working. We are settling into an routine and part of that is going down to the ocean. Clela reads and I whale watch or write my blog. I was thinking oh, no, okay think about this the Internet. I'm sitting out there by the ocean writing my blog. Every once and a while I upload my work to that big cloud in the sky. Now can you see all those encrypted text that is broken down into little pluses and minuses, + and - that form my text, just flying around on there way to you. Holy Cow I love technology.

Clela saw some whales far out and gave the binoculars to me. It jump up to see and I ran square into a big branch on a tree. Here is what it looked like.
What I saw was an old man with a gash on his head. Man that can't be me. How did I get that old.
Swimming
The next thing we do each day is take a swim. On our way back we saw people crowed around a young man who was fishing. He had a big fish on line. He worked very hard but got no where. Every time he would crank the fish in it would slip out.  He fought and fought all the while more people gathered.
I took some video and just sat down to watch him land the fish when the line snapped. We did make it to the pool and had our swim along with the tots.
The bowl
Well here it is our 2016 quest the bowl
Okay it is not Koa wood. It's called Milo wood. Good for making bowls, has a fine grain with rich color that becomes darker with age.
It was signed by the Artist/Owner. I love it.
Well that is our day.
See ya at the Oscars

2016 Aloha kakahiaka Good morning

You might ask why I take this picture every morning. I take this pic to let you know the type of weather we are having. I also take this pic to remind myself how fortunate we are.
Good breakfast to you. It's a good one today.
That is the last of the spam. Good coffee, waffle, spam, guava all with this great view.
House cleaning day
Our house cleaning service is coming today. I think we clean more when we know they are coming. I wonder if that's the way others are. We don't do anything extra. We just pickup and get the dishes done (my job). Clela cook and I do the dishes. I think we are going to try to get out of the condo before they get here.
Ocean
The waves are still high. There are a lot of outriggers way out looking for whales. Each outrigger has about 8 people on it. It is fun watching long boards surf the waves.
The outriggers are coming back in. I have been sitting here for some time and I didn't see much action. That's a lot of work to see so little.
We are doing our watching from here.
Clela has this big story she is telling me. She is a big story teller. I thing
K she gets that from her grandfather Jungenberg. Okay she is not telling me a story I just wanted a picture of us.
We are back at our condo now the cleaning crew has left. They do a nice job.
Aloha litekingkamama Lunch
I made that up I can't fine the Hawaiian word for lunch. Before we could eat we took a walk to the ABC store, you know like going to Kwik Trip.  We picked up some odds and ends along with some potato salad.
You have Hawaiian bread, with mayo or butter, ham, a slice of tomato and a slice of coby cheese. Everything added up to a great Aloha litekingkamama Lunch. We took a nap while lessening to a recorded book. Didn't sleep much because it is good. It is an Harry Boesch detective story.
Lahaina
We are planning on going out to night, you know that's the time frame when you have a sunset supper and do a little walking the streets of Lahaina.  Maybe we'll buy that Koa bowl. Then we will be back here by seven. Don't cha know we're old people.
Aloha ahiahi  Good evening
We arrived in Lahaina as the sun was setting.
Hard Rock Cafe
We got seated outside on a wonderful night. We ordered drink.
Raspberry lemonade and...  Clela had Mojito.
Sorry guys after we started drinking I forgot to take a picture of our food.  I know, I know, we had just one drink. We ordered a  Fajita with beef, chicken and shrimp. No shrimp for me. It was good food and great date.

That's our day.
See ya.

2016 In search of the big wave

Just another blessed day

I love the sun shining on the tree tops. Like the leaves are touched with gold. The crispness of a new day. There is a feeling in your gut of excitement.
Good breakfast to you
See when you hear that you have something to look forward to.

Just me and Jimmy Dean. Okay, I did have raisin bread withe my coffee. No papaya today.
This morning we are going on a picnic. We are going north to Fleming Beach in search of the big wave. The Big Surf contest is on. They are expecting 50 foot waves. The last time this contest was held was the year Chris was born 1969. That's the last time Oahu had the contest. Waves have never been that big. So my reasoning is maybe some of those wave will come ashore here.
Fleming Beach
We arrived at the park with the roar of the ocean. Ocean spray covered the area like fog. The wind was blowing and there was an excitement and anticipation on my part for high surf. We found a picnic bench and laid out our food.

What color. We had half of our supper last night and we stopped by an ABC store and got some pineapple.

Okay  the Ritz Carlton calls it something else. We had a great lunch, cleaned up and set off to take some awesome pictures.  We found some shade to put our chairs down and this is what I saw.

As you can see no real big waves. We stayed here a couple hours. I had a rest closing my eyes a couple of times. I said to Clela lets go north some more closer the the real north side of the island. This involves driving 25 mph and making switch back turns. We settled on a small beach to see those big waves. There got to be some 25 footers out here.

Great stones, hard to walk on but no big waves. Let's go north some more.  More switch back curves. We are going to the blow hole. I'm sure we'll see some large monster waves. After making one false stop we found the blow hole.

NO LARGE WAVES. We got in the car and drove back tired but a well spent day with my lady. Okay I was a little tired.
That is our day.
See ya
