2016 G'Day

The
Day 11
Another great day.

Breakfast
Breakfast was just a simple, not to much meal.

I'm sitting by the ocean just Clela and I and a young expecting mother with her husband, I think.
I'm thinking, bad sign, there should be more greetings. Most people say good morning or like the people from Australia say G'Day. How about good afternoon or good evening. I think those greeting just miss the boat. None of them greet you for meals, like good breakfast to you or good lunch to ya. My life centers around three meals, breakfast @ 7:00, lunch @ 12:00 and supper @ 6:00 don't cha know. If your speaking Hawaiian and your eating a fish toco you would say humuhumunukunukuapua’a  toco.
Lunch
Good lunch to ya. Now didn't that sound like a great greeting.
Doesn't that look good.  We had our story and a nap. Now we are back down by the pool by the ocean.

We are the ones who try to find shade. The sun is very intense. I've got my drink, binoculars, towel, and chair.
Now if I could see a whale. Well I really don't need to just looking out there is so beautiful.
Had to move it was toooo hot by the pool.
Now I have to find a new chair. You might ask why, well  see that big space between the slats, that's where my butt goes. Remember when you were a kid in you were sitting in a outhouse and the hole was so big. That's the feeling I have. I remember putting one hand the left side of the hole and my right hand on the other side and prayed,  Don't  fall through, Don't fall through.
To lazy to find a new chair. I moved the back up and that seems to help.
The ocean is quite choppy today which makes it hard to spot whales.  The waves are almost normal.  Tomorrow we are planning  to go north to Flemming Beach. We know it will be closed to swimming, but we should see some large waves. The swells are predicted to be 50 feet on the north shore of Oahu. Quick Silver is sponsoring a big surf contest. I know it will be less here but the waves will be larger than yesterday at 25 feet.  I wish our cameras would capture the size.  Hey if your going to take that shot you will be swept away.
Swim
We both have had our swimming suits on all day. We decided to go for a swim in the new pool.
This pool is officially the baby pool. Lots of tots. The water was warm and inviting. Here is my pic of the day.

This picture was taken behind the waterfall.  No I didn't get my IPad wet.  Clela sitting with me thought I was going to take her picture. She wasn't to happy to see my IPad behind the falls.
Lahaina
We are off to Lahaina still on our quest to find a Koa bowl. Got to show you what we are wearing.

Okay, we have been married for 51 years.
Clela's list
We are going to a new place to eat tonight. It's called Cool Cat Cafe Maui.  We have looked at this place for a long time. It's across the street from the large Banyan tree.  They have burgers with names like "The Big Bopper" or "Bonanza", The Duke" and more Salads called "Buddy Holly". Right there that is your music.  Peggy Sue, Peggy Sue. Everyday it's a getting closer. Ah the best music.
Okay we both ate just half and took the rest home.
Shopping
We went to just two stores. One was all things made on Maui. The other had the type of bowl I've been looking for. I did some shop talk with the owner, you know woodworker to woodworker.  That might be our place to buy a Kao bowl.
Well that's it.
See ya.

2016 Paia

Day 12
Another beautiful day.
Weather
I thought I would show you the weekly forecast.
Most times if you don't like the weather just get in your car and go a couple miles and walla better weather.
Breakfast
The word of the day Spam. Not email spam. The food that is an staple in every Hawaiian household.   Spam was first bought here durning WWI. You can eat Spam at Micky Ds.
Yes I eat Spam when I'm here.
Clela's
Mine.  Hey try it you'll like it. Note I am eating the lite version.
Paia
The waves at our resort are maybe 6-10 feet, so today we decided to see the big waves and watch the pros sail boarder and surf.  But you know we are on a quest to kind a koa bowl for my dresser.  A stop in Paia is a must, besides we always eat at the The Fish market.
That it on the corner. When we arrived there were a few people eating. I thought oh my maybe they have a new cook, maybe there is new owners.  We ordered and found a place to eat.
By the time we got our food there were people in line out the door. Just good timing on our part
I had a fish toco. It was by far better then Hula Girl.
Clela had mahi. Big flakes of white fish. Every year we eat here it's a must.
Shopping
Paia is an old town that never left the 60s. But sadly to say it is changing. Before you could walk the streets and see women in tied dyed dresses, guys with a guitar on their backs.  It's like  all the hippies have grown older and have noticed people do like their art and jewelry, thus art, blown glass hand made jewelry. Okay, the type of thing we like. We found a great koe bowl. It was the right size. We turn it over and it was only a mere $1,200. Yup  that's right. Now we are rethinking. Maybe the ABC store is more our price range.
Surfing
Off we went to see the surfers. As we approached our look out sight there was a fine mist almost like a fog. It use to be a parking lot now there Porta potty's food trucks, jewelry, wood carving. The beach was closed. I thought there would be some rebels but no one down at the beach.
The pictures I'm going to show you are by no means what the height of the waves.

If you zoom in you will see some idiots down below on the rocks.

You are looking 25 foot waves. They could be larger tomorrow or Thursday.
After arriving back at the condo we decided to go down to the ocean and whale watch for me and reading for Clela. There were people surfing that's how big they were.  I just like looking at the top of the wave.  As the wave curls there is that green translucent color. Beautiful!  What does a 12 foot wave sound like?  There is that rumble that grows in intensity. You chair shakes, the ground vibrates . If you  have surround sound and you have your subwoofer cranked up, now you have the sound. It always like I say do you feel the sound, only when Clela is not in the room. You get the idea.
Supper
Can't waist any food. It's bucatini.

Got to have olives. When we were in southern Italy we saw olive tree all over. An olive never touches the ground. They have nets drawn under the trees.  Oh by the way when you eat spaghetti you can twirl it on your fork, you can spin it on you spoon. You can't use any of these techniques on bucatini.
That our day.
See ya

2016 Rescue me

Day 9
A good start for our day.
Weather
It's not everyday the I can set down by the ocean with its roar and write a my blog.
As you can see the weather is great. We went down to the ocean before breakfast to see if they predicted waves would be high. I wish I could include a video but I can't.  So here are some pics.

I guess I only have one.
A new restaurant
Clela has a list of several new restaurants she wanted to try.  So off we go heading north. The name of the restaurant is the Sea House. It's located in a resort. We always thy to eat out side. Here was our view.

Nice view. We ordered our food. I'm the type of person work wants the meat and potatoes. So I ordered a Haleakala pancake. Okay I'd lied. It was a pancake with pineapple chunks, cinnamon glaze which gives it a Caramelize glaze. In short it was out of this world.

   Clela had a veggie omelet.
Both were very good.
Here is the real news.
Rescue # 1
While we were waiting for our food I saw a girl in the water being pushed out by the waves.  She would try to swim back in but the waves would pull her out.

Use your fingers to zoom in. She is near the top of the photo.  I took the pic and said to Clela she is in trouble.  Have you ever been a rip tide?  I have although it was a small one. You swim and swim toward shore and you get no were.  You feel helpless.  You can't stand because the waves are pulling you . Finally someone on shore with a blow horn said "don't fight the waves". "Let the waves push you in. She was getting close to a large rock formation. Just then a large wave gave her a push in toward shore. At the same time a guy on a surfing board started to move over toward her. He grabbed her and they both paddled in  together.

She gave him a good hug of gratitude.

Rescue #2
Not more than five minutes later two men with flippers on went in. They rode several waves in. Now they just started to swim out. They were moving fast thinking they were far enough out. However it was to late. They just kept moving out. Two surfers came over and brought them back in.  One was so tired he couldn't stand up.

Rescue #3
We were about to pay when we saw a girl floating out. Here we go again.

She kept going way out. There were times when I didn't see her. I thought she went under. The waves were high. This time a life guard on a skidoo came along. I think he had to convince her to get on the board behind the skidoo. He kept circling her until she finally got on and he took her back to shore.

This bay was like bowl. With all the water rushing in, it has to go out producing a rip tide.  As we were leaving another guy was heading out, no board, no flippers, just moving out. One of the security guards hollered at him just in time. He came back in. That is when they closed all the beaches on the island.  I haven't heard the Maui news yet maybe there were more.. Just think we were there or just one hour and we saw four rescued. They all could go home, back to their love ones. I guess they all got up this morning and took an idiot pill. Thank God people were in the right places.
Errands
After eating that large breakfast we had errands to run. First we went to the Mauigrown Coffee Company Store in Lahaina. If you are ever here on the island the store is by the old sugar miil smoke stack. Of course you can order coffee from this company on line.

We like the Peaberry roast. Like most Hawaiian coffee it has a strong robust flavor.  The difference is the coffee is not bitter. After this we went to Safeway for some grocery shopping.

Supper
We were tired  so a simple meal was in order.
Pulled pork, cold slaw and Maui chips.   What a day we had. Just going out for breakfast at a new restaurant.
See ya

2016 A day of rest

Day 8
Man this week went fast.  It seems like the older you get the faster the time goes.
Well Tom Peter the song is complete so here it goes.
An old man and his boots

I'm tired, old and cranky
I'm on the far side of those in their 40s
And my bones they squeak like never be for
I'm tired, old and cranky.

Sometimes I forget simple words and their spelling
I didn't forget in my 40s
I'm sitting here wondering who wrote this song
I'm tired, old and cranky.

My boots are old, scuffed and dirty
They are a reflection of me
We've been through a lot and more to go
I'm tired, old and cranky

Before you lay me down to rest
Make sure  my old boots are on
I'll remember the good times with the bad
Just remember that old man who is doing his best
I'm tired, old and cranky

Technical support Samantha

This morning was bright and beautiful. Like I said you can always tell what type of day by the morning.
Blue skies, warn temps, a hint of a very good day.
Breakfast
Breakfast was great.
Yesterday we bought some raisin bread. So this morning Clela made some French toast. Yum!
After breakfast we took some down time, like a said a day of rest. We read the Sunday paper, did some laundry along with just some rest.
Lunch
Clela did it again coming up with a creative lunch.  You must use everything in the fridge. One dry bagel and wala

Clela's lunch consist of one half bagel, made fresh with a wet paper towel, ham lunch meat, a slice of tomato, a slice of Colby cheese. Place in the microwave for one minute. She also had musibi, that is rice and spam raped up in sea weed. Here is my lunch.
No Japanese food here just Maui chips.
After lunch we took a nap
We do this most days.  We listen to a story with a IPod and speaker.  Sleep takes over if the story is boring, if not we listen to an exciting story. A half an hour is average. Try it if you can.
Weather
The weather made a turnabout and the rain has started. It rained hard.  Hawaii rain is different than back home. Even tho the rain comes down hard it is a very soft fine rain. It's the kind of rain you can take a walk in like we did. It's warm and soft. Most times the it rain very, very light. As you are waking it's so light you just feel it on your face slightly.  It's quite delightful. Never fear lighting because lighting is a rarity here.
Supper
Tonight we went to Round Table Pizza, the best pizza on Maui. We have tried a lot of places and this is the best.

Well that is our day.
See ya
