If It's Raining At The Resort Just GoTo Lahaina

Wednesday March 6th 2019
If It's Raining At The Resort  Just Go To Lahaina

Last night you hear the wind blowing and at times hear the down pour of rain, not your fine miss but a real down pour of rain.  When we did wake up there was an overcast.

Ever where I looked I saw what looked like an all day rain.

We ate breakfast.  Clela made Macadamia Nut pancakes with sliced apple banana.  They may have an odd look but tasted great.  Clela had too many pancakes in one pan so it was hard to turn.  Didn't matter.

Known how if it's raining here just get in the car and drive to Lahaina.  Lahaina is becoming more and more crowed, so a space in our favorite parking lots are harder to fine.  Today we were lucky as we found a place by the local school and off we went.  Our destination is Cool Cats restaurant.

I ordered a hamburger and Clela ordered a turkey sandwich.

We always say we are going to order one thing and share it.  Mine was so big I cut it in half the long way.  Very good food.

I'm still looking for a small dish to hold pills from last night.  I have looked in several stores and found one I liked in Lahaina just down the street and towards the parking lot.  Here is my choice.

Well that was out day.  See you soon.

P.S. We have some drama here.  There is a leak in the plumbing in the wall affecting the condo below us.  They think it is coming from our condo.  Stay tune.

And The Seas Parted

And The Seas Parted
Tuesday March 5th 2019
Another day at Kaanapali Shores Resort.  Every day I go out on the  balcony to take a snapshot of the day.  Most mornings are cold with a strong wind blowing.  Today was no exception.  There are signs of wind damage, but the grounds crew are always there to keep the resort beautiful day in and day out.

We eat again inside.

What could that be a mystery food?

Jimmy is back.  Quick and easy breakfast.  That mango was so good.  Wanting to find a warm place to sit outside we went back to the gazebo.  This morning there is a small craft advisory.  There is now three whales entangled in fishing lines, some having buoy still attached. Some whales are swimming in our area.
We decided to make a lunch and go to cemetery beach.  When we get to the beach, we went to a different part of the beach to eat.

The wind was blowing so hard that putting our chairs up they almost blew off. The sand from the beach begin to fly through the air. People were trying to hold on to their beach towels and some headed for their car, but not us, we open up our chairs and sit down.  Only Clela let go of her chair to sit down and it flew.  Still we sat down after recovering her chair.  We sat there eating while I had this tussle with a sparrow.  Yes that's right.  The bird kept getting closer and closer to me.  I would shoo it away with my foot only to see it try another way.  Several times it flew at my face.  It's crazy.

I was looking for whales using my binoculars and when I saw five boats on the horizon that weren't moving.  Several boats were craft that did whale watching.  I saw this flash of a big orange object.  One whale was entangled with a large buoy.  Now my mind did play with this.  I'll have to pay attention to the news to see if that is what I saw.
The wind was getting too strong to stay, but before I left I took some pictures of the many outriggers.

This is the Lahaina Outriggers Club.  These boats are all fiber glass.  I found the outrigger fascinated.

Upon reaching our resort  and standing on the walkway , before the elevator,   heard sirens blasting as they headed into our resort.  There is something about hearing those sounds that are familiar to us, but in this case it was the sirens  of the life guards.  We went on a pursuit of the action, as now a rescue squad also pulled in.  As we approached the ocean, out in front of us lays the drama. It is an extremely windy day with large waves crashing on shore.

A lifeguard was on his jet ski with the rescue board following behind him searching the waves.  Then we saw a man in the water.  The life guard positioned his board so the man  could catch it and climb on board.  The wind is blowing to hard as the lifeguard got closer to the swimmer.  The man kept swimming  toward the beach. There were reports of two men in trouble in the harsh churning water.  I kept looking for the other man and saw none.  The man kept swimming toward to beach with a slow purposeful stroke.  The lifeguard kept circling the swimmer.  Is he getting tired, will he make it.  This is so intense .

Another lifeguard starts walking toward the swimmer from shore.   People are standing there, some with their cameras out taking pictures.

There are some murmurs  in the crowd as the swimmer kept swimming toward shore.  No one was talking.  Then a grounds keeper shouts out " it's Moses, he doesn't need a rescue."  As the seas parted, Moses steps out of the water.  Up the steps come an older man in extremely good shape, his beard was graying.  If you saw him would think he was a street person.    The grounds keeper ask Moses "how far out were  you", as Moses dries off  and said "I was out about a mile".  A happy ending.

That was our day.  Hope to see you soon.

Going Shopping Again

Monday March 4th 2019
Going Shopping Again
It’s amazing to me how the weather changes from the time you wake up until you decide to venture out. Take today, it looked like an all day rain with cold strong wind blowing.

Eating inside was a good idea.

A great breakfast.  Clela added her secret ingredient to the scrambled eggs.  After eating and reading the paper We got dressed and went out to find a warm place to sit.  By this time this is what we saw.

Looks warm but when we got down there the wind was blowing and if you were in the
shade it  was cold.  We went to the  gazebo, We found warmth, the music that is playing  is true Hawaiian.  It’s so peaceful.

I did some writing on my IPad and Clela read her book.  We did this until around noon.  We decided to go to the Whaler Mall to shop and eat lunch at the Hula Grill.

One of our favorite places and one we come to every year.  We ordered a drink. I ordered a Plantation Lemonade (citrus Vodka, fresh lemonade and a splash of cranberry).  Clela ordered Bloody Mary.

I forgot the splash of cranberry.  Well that's my wimpy drink with my little pink umbrella.  I thought for picture taking we would put my wimpy drink in front of Clela.

We both ordered a flat bread entries.  Kulua Pork on flat bread, and Surfing goat cheese.

A great lunch at a great place.  After lunch we did some shopping.  I am looking for a another t-shirt and a hat.  After going through several stores and finding nothing ( I'm picky).  We made one more stop at the ABC store for some candy.  Clela always brings some candy to her retired nurses lunch.
That was our day.  See you soon.

A Sunday in Kaanapali

A Sunday in Kaanapali
We have decided Sunday should be a day we won’t go anywhere.  Just a day of sun and relaxing.  Our day started out with great promise.  Not a cloud in the sky. I opened up the balcony door and stepped outside. It was greeted with a strong wind and cold.

I like the way we could see Molokai. The mountains are clear and draped in a brilliant morning sun.   I know one day I will go out to the ocean and take some pictures.

This morning we were delighted to eat, fresh fruit and one of our favorite breakfast. Yes you guess it. Yup, that correct JIMMY DEAN delite breakfast sandwich.
Jimmy ranks right up there with Spam.

After breakfast we did some FaceTiming with Reagan and Alyssa, after which we went down to the beach and did some whale watching. For once we were treated to a great show. There were lots of competitive pods, (one female and several competitive males. We saw lots of in fighting. I also took lots of pictures because the water was so beautiful. I’m going to try to bring the color out.

The light aqua.  With  good sunlight, this area is beautiful.

These last two pictures are the same, only the the colors of the water is more what I'm looking for.

When we first time we came to this resort,  all the women who owned condos would all gather and sit and knit.  There husbands would golf.  Well looking at this group reminded me of that group. Clela and I couldn't stay warm.  We kept chasing the sun to keep warm.  We  usually look for shade but today we looked for sun. This was not working so we went down to the pool by the ocean to get away from the wind.

We found a corner near the building that was out of the wind.  When you shoot a picture into the sun you get sun spots.

Back at our condo, Clela made dinner. I've got a Christmas dinner to eat, chicken and stuffing.

That was our day.  See you soon.

How Long Does It Take You To Get Out Of The Condo

Friday March 1st 2019
How Long Does It Take to Get Out Of The Condo

Our day started out like most days. Start with a cup of coffee, a look out on the balcony.  We started out rather cool but by the afternoon temp did rise up to 75, with the wind coming out of the north east.

There is no one in the pool.  Right now it is 61 with that strong wind.  As you can see we are again eating inside.

I am eating granola with apple bananas and yogurt.  Of course catching up on Wisconsin news.  Looks like a bad week ahead weather wise for you.  Can't believe below 0.

We are on our way to the beach to look for whales, but there are also funny things to see.
Took this pic waiting for Clela.  Love those trees.  We got out to the corner by the ocean, where you don't have the protection of the resort, and the wind was blowing so hard I had to turn my hat around so it wouldn't blow away.  Found lots of empty lounge chairs.  I put my towel clamps on to hold my towel in place and sat down.  The wind blowing so hard part of my towel kept hitting me in my face.  Clela came the the rescue with one of her clamps.

Silly old man.  With no whales to see we turned our attention to the show in front of us.

Standing on the edge of the ledge with her hula hoop.  Her boy friend was on the camera.  I really wish you could have seen this. I took several pictures of palm trees, here they are.

I like the clouds are fascinating.  You could tell there was a lot of wind out there.
After lunch we decided to try a different park for a change of scenery.  Getting out of our condo was a problem.  Remember what you had to do when you had young kids and all the things you needed before you left the house?  Now here you have us trying to leave.  Out the door we went.  As I was closing the door Clela said "Gene you can't drive with your flip flops on." So in I went to change my shoes.  Went out the door and I realized I didn't have my keys.  Back in I went for my keys.  I finally got out only to find Clela had to go back for her visor.   Clela had her jacket I did not, so you guessed it back in I went because when you were in the shade you needed a jacket.  How Long Does It Take You To Get Out Of The Condo.  Driving past our favorite beach we stopped just down the road.  I"m not sure but maybe this is a way side not a park.  Anyway we took our chairs and went down to the ocean,  Here are some pictures.

You know when your someplace that doesn't feel right, well this place didn't feel right. First of all there were only a couple people around.  A guy walks over to the bathroom.  Then another guy goes into the bathroom.  He comes out in about 30 seconds.  Clela looked at me and I looked at her. She said lets get out of here.  We picked up our chairs not putting them in there sleeves and drove away.
We are starting to find out there are several parks we are going to stay away from.  The other place is the beach opposite the farmers market.  The other day when we were there there was a guy laying down on the beach that was coming of some type of  trance, drug related or something.  Two other guys were shouting at each other. Maybe there is a half way house near by.  That was enough beach time.  We drove to Lahaina where we decided to get some shaved ice.  There are not to many tables to sit down on so we asked a couple if we could share their table.  We start talking they were from Massachusetts.  They left and this guy says are you from Wisconsin we said yes.  Okay if I would have looked at his hat I would have known they had some tie  to Madison.  It said Wisconsin Engineering.  Turns out they live in Whitefish bay.  She is an nurse so Clela and her start talking about their work.
We stopped by the food trucks to get dinner.  I chose orange chicken and Clela had shrimp  fried noodles.  Mine was was terrible and Clela really liked hers.
There was nothing on TV so I hooked up my computer to the TV and we watched several movies from netflex  That was our day.  See You soon.
