February 22nd 2018 A Gray Day And A Star Day

Today when we got up our day in Maui was and is a gray day.  It has rained all day.  My blog for today is only our noon lunch.  Last week we made a reservation through Yelp to eat at Star Noodle. No reservation and they try to squeeze you into a corner some place.  Today people waited outside on a bench for an hour.

This nontraditional restaurant that is located in an industrial park and it looks like any other small business. Once you get inside the restaurant vibe gives you the impression of a mod upscale place.

We took this picture when we first got here at 11:00 this morning.  Yes 11:00 in the morning is the only choice we had. We ordered drinks. My drink was an Strawberry Lemon Soda. Clelas drink was a Pineapple Lime Soda.

Do you notice a fork on my plate?  If you don't ask you won't get one.

We ordered  Steam Pork Buns for an appetizer.  When they came and we took off the cover off.  Now I might say Clela went on line and figured out what we wanted to eat.  If you know me I never like Japan or Chinese food.

The outside was a soft bun.  I mean it would just melt in your mouth.  The onions, carrots and cabbage were pickled.  You got to try it.  Even I really liked it.

My food order came first, Teriyaki Chicken.

You know here we are in an industrial park and our food is presented like this.  The presentation, so beautiful, made the food taste better to me.

Next came Clelas food order, Lahaina Fried Soup.  Not soup at all but the food was excellent .

You have Bean sprouts, onions, pork and the tick long pieces are rice flour noddles.  We had to ask what they were, however Clela thought they were rice flour something.  There was so much food we took our left overs back to our condo.

When Clela looked at the menu online she saw they had Masada's .  Okay we were full.  We never have desert but since our desert was small.

They came with dipping choice of chocolate, peanuts and Carmel.  We did take two home.  My advice would be to eat them at the restaurant.  They are warn puffy being freshly made.

Now you can see the restaurant is all most full.  When we left there were people waiting outside.

After we got back and we went down stairs because the craft fair was here.  Just like I said last week Clela had to mull over buying that visor.  We she bought it.

The hat is hand painted.

We did go down to the ocean and this is what I saw.

We were only there a few minutes when the rain started.  We packed up and instead of going back to our condo we went over to the the resort next door to see how the beach restoration was going.

It seems to be coming along quite well.  Okay I think this guy is an Australian Aborigine.  The only thing he forgot was his spear.

Well that was our day.  See you tomorrow.

February 21st 2018 Chinese New Year

Today looks like an overcast day, but that's okay as long as no rain.  Looking out into the ocean all you can see is a small part of Molokai.

We are planning on going out for breakfast so there was no hurry, just a good cup of coffee.  I had a hard time figuring what to wear.  We decided to dress up.  It's always a funny time when we takes selfies.

Hey my eyes are almost open.  We are going north to the Sea House Restaurant.

Last when we were here there were four people rescued from this bay.  There is a strong rip tide in this bay.  Today the bay was peaceful and people took advantage.

We ordered, Clela having fried rice and kahlua pork and I had Hawaiian sweet bread french toast.

After breakfast we went back to the resort for a few hours before going down to the lobby for the Chinese New Year celebration.  There were some little kids that participated.

They gave you a envelope to put a dollar in to be placed in the dragons mouth.

This gives you good luck for the year.  When the dragon came to me I put mine in part way and was dragging it out again when the mouth clamp down on my hand that hurt, but I deserved that.  Now I have an extra special good luck.  Now Powerball here I come.

It seem like all the cleaning ladies were there for their good luck.

I had to get a picture of this little guy.

Well I have to wait until next week.  Boy time flies by.

We came up to our condo for a couple hours before heading back down to the pool by the the Ocean.  Elvis is in the house.  I'm sorry I didn't get a picture of Elvis I guess I was busy send snap chats to everyone.  He just promoted his show with about four or five songs.  I think his show will be on our agenda next year.

We did a little whale watching until the Hula show started.  Again no pictures just snap chatting.

For supper we had leftovers. I had a cheese quesadilla and Clela had the same.

Well that was quite a day.  I'm a little tired.  So I'll say see you tomorrow.

February 20th 2018 Did You Ever Look At The Moon In Maui?

Well folks if the weather is beautiful we hit the road.  Breakfast was simple we invited Jimmy this morning.  We ate inside because it still a little cool in the morning.

Can't even tell you what we did.  I guess we did nothing.  How ever we decided to go out for lunch as a picnic at Fleming Beach.

There was a lot of wood on the beach.  There was bad weather with high winds and rain. We decided to use a picnic table to eat.  We use a towel as our table cloth and put out our food.  In a flash there were flies zooming in on us.  A cardinal landed on the bench.  Now I didn't invite them, and in two seconds all the sparrows arrived.  After eating, they were gone just like that.

You know  I think this might have been the first time we sat in the sun with no umbrella .  We sit up our chairs and just looked around.  Clela said while looking to our right "look at the family they are going over to that rock formation."  "I think that rock formation was one of your pictures you fell in love  with. "  I remember that.  I think I had just got that big Nike camera.  The waves were rolling in and it was fun people watching.

The red flags were out today.
Clela read her book and I and I just sat there.  I think you can't get closer to serenity.  I set back and close my eyes.  The sun warms my body, while a slight wind blows keeping me cool.  The ocean rolls in with a steady roar of waves.  I look up and the clouds look like  cotton candy spreading  across the sky.

The sky can't get much bluer.  We are so blessed and so fortunate to be here.  I saw something to my right and couldn't believe what is was seeing.  I"ll just have to show you.

Okay the guy is naked.  He goes down to the ocean and starts to wash up.  He then gets out shakes his booty to anyone looking.  Okay he does cover his privates.  He goes up into the rocks and finds a flat area and lays down to dry off.  Later he walks back down covering his privates, get dressed and walks by.

Yes that 's him walking by.  You can't top that.

Later we went back to our condo and had a drink.

Looks like ice cream doesn't it.  This is leftover from yesterday.  I would say there was not much alcohol in the drink.  Anyway it still taste good.

After a rest we got dressed and went into Lahaina to eat.  Our stop was the Paia Fish Market.  My job is to find out who has the best fish taco.

We got our food and then looked for a table.  We found the table you see in the picture.  Only place to eat.  The woman said to me are you from Wisconsin and I said yes we are from Sussex.  She said she was from Pewaukee and her husband was from Brookfield.  Crazy right.  He went to Brookfield East.  I said I taught at Brookfield Central.  He graduated in 1993.  However they now live in Seattle.  They both are professors teaching math.  New concept of doing all there teaching form home and online.  Must pay well because they are staying at the Westin.  What a day.

Hey I don't know all the times I have looked at the moon and never gave it a thought.  We have a quarter of the moon showing.  The difference is our quarter is on the bottom where yours is vertical filling in form the right.  Well that was our day.  See you tomorrow.

February 19th 2018 The Good Weather Is Back

The good weather is back.  The sun is shining, clear skies and a light breeze is blowing.  Good morning Maui!

I think that is the first day we could see Molokai in two days.

Clela came up with a five star breakfast this morning.

I mean scrambled eggs, Italian sausage, buttered toast and to top that off guava nectar juice with Maui coffee.  Yum!
We decided to go to the beach today since the weather was so perfect.  So off we go to Cemetery Beach. I saw a mother out on her paddle board with he son sitting in front.

That was cool.

Lunch time came and also flies and birds.  The first time we came to Hawaii Sam, at six years old loved this Cardinal.

When we got to the park the divers were there and the leader was talking to his group.  He still was talking after we ate.  That would be about an hour.  He was on a roll telling his students everything about Hawaii. Well now they were finally off.  But wait the lifeguard is telling that leader he didn't have his diving flag.  Now would you go in the water with this guy?  No way I would say.  If I were in that group I would say stop with the talk lets get in the water.

You could see each person is caring that black device that would allow under water propulsion device.  The device will allow you move around better and cover more distance.  They were under the water for an hour.

This guy in the canoe had some problems with his boat because he kept turning it over.  I thought the lifeguards were about ready to come over.  First he turned his boat over and he couldn't get back in.  The next time he turned it over, he had trouble up righting it.  Well he finally did get in, but he didn't go to far out.

Clela and I went for a walk over by the rocks to see if the turtles were there.  While looking around I saw this this young local boy caring around this small fish.

I thought he was giving this fish CPR.  Clela thought he was kissing the fish.  I saw him lay the fish on a hot rock and walk away.  I also saw him put that fish in some water between some rocks.

Then he would take that fish and what I thought, was trying to bit its mouth off.  What do you think?

We came back to our condo and listened to our story.  We are getting to the exciting part of the book.  You know you have a good book, you don't sleep.

After listening we went down to the ocean to whale watch but probably watched people more the whales.  Not much going on whale watching anyway.   We haven't seen people trying to boogie boards out in front of our resort.

we went swimming for a bit.  You know walking around  in the pool with a little swimming.  I think we are just happy to see the little kids play.

Well up to our condo for supper.  It's Taco night.

You have the taco, refried beans and Spanish rice.  That looks pretty good doesn't it.

Well that was our day. See you tomorrow.

February 18th 2018 Come Fly With Me

This morning I slept later maybe because I knew the weather would not be conducive to outdoor activities.  When I did get the skies were overcast and that remind me of November.   Last year when we were here we were cold a lot.  This year it has been warmer.  There is rain in most of the forecast just about everyday.  Still we have had beautiful weather.  I think that stretch acclimated so when it did get cold so did we.  I know 65 degrees is the type of weather where the kids at home would walk around in shorts but here when the temperature goes down here and the wind comes in from the north we are cold.

Hey we are cold right now.

Breakfast today was not outside.

Take a good look at this picture.  These three muffins are not muffins but blueberry pancakes.  Yes pancakes.  What you say.  Yes your eyes are not deceiving you.  Hey after adding some Mrs.  Butter-worth they were very good.

Later in the morning we went into Lahina and back to Safeway to pick up some things we forgot yesterday.  We then went to the craft fair for another look.  The fair was three times larger than last week.  Clela was looking a small turtle.

hina

We went to a booth where we found they were selling pottery made by the same Artist who is from Madison and made her plate.  This is what she bought.

Now she can display her little bowl .

We have a plan to eat at the craft fair at a place that makes crepes.  We had two choices of categories savory or sweet.  At the last minute we changed our mine and went for sweet.  We ordered a Nutella hazelnut crepe.  He was very busy and it seem to take some time to make each order.  While standing there, the wind started blowing. The temperature dropped and wind started blowing harder.  He makes a grab for one of his corner post on his tent and I grabbed the other and he trying to cook.  Now the wind is picking up more and more. He had an umbrella covering a picnic table and it went flying over the highway and into a parking lot across the road.  Lucky the umbrella didn't hit a car.  Picture this all the time he is trying to make my crepe.  Other vendors started to quickly packing up to leave.  Now the wind is really blowing and people are running for their cars. But I'm standing there holding that corner post. Everyone is getting warnings on their cellphones.  He can't keep his stove lit because the wind is blowing so hard and I"m still holding that corner post.  He uses his body to block the wind and it is getting real cold. The skies are grey and threatening.  He finally blocked enough wind to finish my crepe and we head to our car all the time hoping no gust of wind would catch me off guard and my crepe would go flying. Lucky for us we made it to our car.  We decided to eat those crepes right there in the parking lot.

When getting out of the car and holding our paper plates it finally happen and the wind blew and I got chocolate in my shirt.  I think I will stop here.  We had leftovers for supper.  That's our day.  See you tomorrow.
