Going Into Lahaina For Lunch

Got up early this morning and took these photos.

I wish I could get a photo like this in the night. Too cool and windy to eat out on the lanai.

Can you believe it's cereal, Honey Nut Cheerios.   It is gluten free, Real Honey and low cholesterol.  The second ingredient is sugar.  Okay I do like this cereal.  Great strawberries.

It was raining so of course I looked for a rainbow.  Wow it was a full rainbow touching the ground on the other side of the restaurant.  From the kitchen I ran with my phone.  By the time I opened the patio doors it was gone.  This is what I did find.

I don't know if you can see this. There is a very light rainbow.

We got dressed and off we went to Lahaina for the first time in two years.  We thought about several parking lots, Clela thought maybe I couldn't find them, but after going there it was like we never left.

We always liked the Paia Fish Market.  Clela thinks this
restaurant is as good as the food is at the original restaurant. I think the store in Paia is better.  Maybe the food is the same but it's the smallness and the picnic tables you eat at that force you to meet people from all over. That can't happen now no matter where you are.  Paia is a small diverse community of  hippy' from the sixties. Okay sorry about the diversion.  Anyway we arrived at Cool Cats, just up several steps and over to an elevator and here we are.

We get a table overlooking the street and the park with the banyan tree.

Yes you couldn't walk down front street before the pandemic.  We are here early in the day and there seems to be lots of traffic.  Things haven't change much. There is no art in the park on Sunday.  I really think this community is coming back.
We both ordered a chicken sandwich fries and onion rings combo.

I didn't show mine or Clela's sandwich.  Mind was three to four inches in diameter.  I must have been hungry because I ate the whole thing.
We stopped in one shop on our way back to the car.  It's all Island art from paintings to glass works.  Always got to stop there.

We watched the Golden Globe awards. They started at 3:00 and ran to 6:00.

After the awards  Clela said it's time to eat.  Well I didn't want much.  Clela made a small hot ham sandwich and she had the other half of her lunch. I did get one more after sunset photo.

Beautiful photo.  Can you see the Hawaiian image on the side building.  That's all folks, see ya

Sun  And Rain, Sun And Rain Then Knock Your Socks Wind

Like most mornings we have rain.  Today is just the same.

Got a surprise with this photo the moon was still shining.  For breakfast we had coffee, a bagel and orange juice. I guess not worth showing.  To0 windy and cool on the lanai.

It's now 7:30 in the morning, we have NBC on and we are watching gymnastics.  You know the Summer Olympics are right around the corner.

The shape of the girls are completely different.  Gone are the little thin girls.  These girls have guns you might see on a pro line backer.  Most girls had this look.  The only one we knew was Laurie Hernandez, you remember the one with the big smile.  Simone Biles did not compete, but  she is still creating new moves that will be named after her.

We ate on the lanai, you know a sandwich, chips, milk and the last two slices of the banana bread. no pics there.

We decided that since we didn't do much today we would take our chair and go down by the ocean and under our fav tree just to be out there.  We got out to the corner by the ocean and low and behold there was two lounge chairs, that was a first.  We sat down for five minutes only to have rain start.  Clela said lets go out by our tree.  WE got out there and set up our chairs.  Clela got out her jacket, sat down got her book out and put up her hood and started to read.

The other day, there were some dog tags hung up in the trees.  That was the day we saw that girl climbing the tree.  Well I looked all over the tree for those dog tags. Not that I was going to climb up there.  Well don't tell Clela but I did considered it.  I know if the grandkids were here they would have been up there.  Maybe they would have each found their favorite spot, like they did in our back yard small tree.  With the wind picking up (gust up to 50mph). We went up to the small pool.  Here you would never know the wind was blowing that hard.

We went back up to our room had a afternoon drink and settle in for the day.

We ate supper (leftovers) and waited for the sunset.  Here are a couple of photos.

That was our day, see ya.

Still Blowing

This morning Clela woke me up tp say the moon is shining again so I picked up my phone and went out on the lanai to take photos.

Beautiful aren't they.  The moon had that aura around it.

Today we had a big breakfast.

Can't remember much about the morning because we didn't do that much, just cleaning, dishes.  I do remember taking out the garbage and walking down the outside hallway. I call it the wind tunnel, I had to hold on to the garbage to make sure it didn't fly out of my hand.  On the way back to the room it was like walking on top of that hill that over looked that battle field in Oahu.  You all were there when we went to the islands.  I remember the kids holding on to that sign with the wind blowing hard. That is what it was like for me walking back to the condo. When I got back and opened the door the floor mat took off.  I went and placed it back and came in but the door wouldn't close.  I had to put both hands on it and really lean into it.  I thought you guys should see that, so Clela held the phone and I opened the door and waited for a large gust but one never came.

For lunch we did eat out on the lanai. This area is really protected by the building and it was nice and warm.

Looks like most of our lunches. That is pineapple in the bowls.  Over the years we have learned to eat small amounts or you might spend lots of time in the bathroom.  Okay after the potty talk can I say this year has been the best pineapple we have had.

Later in the afternoon we needed some things from the grocery store.  We went down to the car and made a walk around to see if there was any damage.

Some of those branches were big enough to be a club.  Kind of weird driving over those branches under the car.

We shopped across the street.  Short drive and short list.  We decided since we didn't do much we took a walk around the resort.  Here are some photos. Look what I found.

Wedding photos.  Can't remember the last time we saw this.  Just think what who ever organized this group and all they had to go through especially if people came from different cities.

After taking taking these photos and walking toward the ocean look what we found on the corner?

Another wedding group.  As you can tell I asked then first if I could take their photo.  They were more than happy to oblige.  I said I hopped one of my granddaughters might also make the trip to do the same.
I continued my walk while Clela found a chair by the pool.  Here are my pics.

We went up to our condo and ate a pulled pork Sandwich.

Had to have some coleslaw.  First time we ate this was at Costco.

For desert we had banana bread.
Soon after we hade our sunset.

That was our day, see ya.

The Answer My Friend Is Blowin' In the Wind - Bob Dylan and Pete Seeger

The wind is plowing at 35-45mph with gust up to 55mph.  Looks are deceiving looking from our lanai.  Sure the palm trees are blowing but not like they are on the other side of our condo.  When we go out and walk towards the elevator there is a real strong corridor where the wind howls.  Here a look out today.

The racing canoes are going by, I don't know how.  Well as you can see we will eat inside not because it's cool but because of the wind.

Large breakfast including coffee.

We decided to go to the Whaler Village, a rather high end mall.  We love going there because of the number of great restaurants and some merchants we visit every year. Lots of cars in parking lot. we got inside, all open air and this is what we saw.

This is looking past the Louis Vuitton store.  Not many people shopping, although most of the stores were open, which was good..  Love the place.  While taking a short cut to the Hulu Grill I found this interesting plant.  It's not a pineapple plant.

I think a mini pineapple plant or pineapple lily. Only you don't eat this pineapple..

We got to the restaurant.  I think we found the people.  We had to wait a half hour but it's worth the wait.  We ate outside in a deep sand area.  I say that because with sandals on they fill up with each step.

We ordered our drinks.

Clela had a Hibiscus Hua and I had Plantation Lemonade

Our food was the best I have ever had.

Both meals were served on flatbread. Mind on top was Kalua Pork & Pineapple Flatbread and Clela's Surfing Goat Cheese Flatbread.  This was by far the best food I have ever had at Hula Grill.  We have been eating here for the last 20 some years.  Just a simple meal with a great taste.
One of the reasons we went to the Whaler Village (mall) was to buy a replacement coffee cup.  Can't remember how it broke.
One of the loses to the Whaler was our Honolulu cookie Company.  The cookie is one thing we will miss.

After going back to the condo we had leftovers.  Well the was our day. Well not quite.  We watched a move Inglorious Basterds.  We saw it before.  Didn't remember how much killing there was.  Clela went to bed early.  The movie was a long one getting over at 11.  Went to bed but couldn't sleep because our room was receiving a direct blow of wind up to 55mph. The windows would shake, the bed even shook.  Just about the time I would settle down a blast would hit sending the windows rattling. So I decided to try to sleep on the couch. There is a problem because even though my feet stretched over the arm by maybe 8 inches. Okay I put one foot on the arm and the other on the floor.  With my body twisting, I tried to sleep.  My back started to ache and spaz up.  Try something else.  There is a large table the same height as the couch.  So I moved next to the couch, got a pillow and put both feet on the pillow.  This worked for an hour. Now about 12:30 things not working out I went back to bed and did fall to sleep. Good night and see ya.
