Day 24 Lazy Day
Got up at 6:30 feeling lazy. Great coffee. I thought I would show you how Clela makes breakfast. She has used only one pan for all her cooking. She has many to choose from.
She has done everything in this pan. She preforms magic in this pan. This is Clela's knife.
She is using her special knife to cut bread for french toast.
And here we are out on the Lanai. Papaya, French Toast from the magic pan and juice. Oh The Journal in the background.
After breakfast, I got great pictures with shadows.
What did you do this morning Gene. Hmmmm? Did you go for a walk? Ah... no. Did you go down to the ocean to whale watch? Ah... no. Did you go for a swim? Hmmmm, no. Well what did you do? I watch a guy change a light bulb. Yes, that is what I did. After he change the bulb the light still didn't go on. He had to take down the fixture and fix it and then after all that it worked.
Please click on the picture, there is a guy up there, believe me. When he was finished he climbed to the very peak of the crane I think to take a picture. Wow, what a job!
After lunch we went north to a small trail that leads to one of the best snorkeling spots on Maui. Now it's a park. No more muddy, narrow path. It's like going through a jungle.
Now it's like a nature walk. Those big trees are Koa. Koa wood was part of our quest. Remember the dish?
Man, koa. All those hug trees are koa. By law no koa wood can be shipped from the island. Man if I could only gets some. We got down to the beach area.
Beach usually means sand but, there is no sand here and that makes it hard to get in and out of the water. We have saw many bloody shins. You know the last time we were at this beach we were with Jerry and Diane. Everybody was slipping and falling getting in and out. Jerry said I got to just see what people are seeing. Well an hour latter he came swimming back. We were so mad at him. He said that was the best snorkeling he ever had. You couldn't stay mad. I only wished I would have shared that experience with him.
On our way back to our condo we stopped at Flemming Beach. We just watched people. I took some panoramic pictures.
That was our day. Here is our sunset.
See Ya!

2015 Day 23 Whales, Whales
Day 23 Whales, Whales
Clela and I have been coming to the islands since 1993. If you ask my family what subjects I have the most pictures of, they would say fish and whales. They are probably saying, oh no! I figure if I take enough pictures sooner or later I will get the perfect shot. It didn't happen. A good camera, I tried that. You have to lug all that extra stuff around.
Yes, here we are at the harbor. We left the condo at 7:30 this morning. We had all these weather predictions, rain, wind. It looks like rain. Well lets get on the boat. They always let the foundation people on the boat first. By getting there early we were the second couple to get on the boat. While everyone headed up top, not us, we went through the cabin and to the front. Oh yes there were two seats for us . Ha Ha. This isn't our first trip buccaneers. You see these people in the front have the big cameras. They always angle the boat so they get the best pictures.
This is my best picture. Yes there is a whale's tail out there. Click to see.
There was a competitive pod. This is where several males chase a female. It's a war. We had a very good host to our whale watch. Here is a short video.
I did get a good shot of Maui on the way back.
Now I know I didn't show you lots of whales, but it was by far one of our best whale watching outings.
After two hours out on the boat in perfect weather. For the most part the sea was like glass, there was a gentle breeze blowing. Hey the weathermen are always right. We headed across the street for breakfast at the Pioneer Restaurant.
A good drink and good food.
Nothing but two tired out people we were and still are. Here was our sunset.

2015 Day 22 A Boring Day?
Day 22 A Boring Day?
This is what it looks like if I take a picture at 6:45 in the morning. We have to wait until the sun gets over the mountains before it shines on the ocean. Today was a normal day of getting up shaving showering dressing and having that first special cup of coffee on the Lanai. I have been stretching for 10 minutes yoga style. My back feels better. Part of our morning routine has always been to watch the Today show.
Okay, okay I said no more papaya. I gave it a try. It's only a fourth and not a half. You see Jimmy is back. We are eating inside because it is raining. Can't get my computer wet. Yes that is the Milwaukee Journal in the back ground, trying times in Wisconsin. The Packers are making some changes.
After breakfast we for the third day we went down to the ocean to whale watch.
Our first rainbow. There is a boat out there. I was hopping to take the picture with the boat under the rainbow. We had the beach pretty much to our self because it was raining a little.
My feet and Clela's feet. She tends to cover up her feet in the sun and cover up her body in the rain. No change for me whats alittle rain. We stayed out there for maybe two hours.
You know they say never take a small boat out into the ocean. I wish I had a picture of these two fishermen. They had a skiff, you know the type of boat you duck hunting in. Yes people a flat bottom boat with a small motor. I'm sitting on the beach in a tee shirt and shorts. They had coats on and were drinking beers. Hey the waves were so high there was a surfer out there. No problem. Hey dude!
We went up for lunch and story time. I have to tell you going back to the beach was not an option for me, I was bored. Clela said she knew this morning I had cabin fever. We had lots of places to go and believe it or not, time is running out. So we did what we like to do the best, we went shopping in Lahina. Nothing like walking the streets of Lahina. Our good parking place was full so we went down to the harbor side of town. We went from shop to shop, just looking. Clela called it retail therapy. We stopped and got some gelato and sat and ate.
Reagan said we should work on our selfies, so Reagan are we getting better?
Not bad huh.
Hey I got a great picture looking out into the bay. See what you think.
Our shopping over we headed back to our condo. Oh you ask what did we buy, we bought nothing, but it was a great therapeutic day. On the way back we stopped at C.J.'s and ordered take out.
Clela ordered a cob salad, and I Mango barbecue ribs.
Great wine, Maui splash and great food.
The sun was sitting on a non boring day. Oh sorry no sun.
See ya!

2015 Day 21 Hot and Cold
Day 21 Hot and Cold
It's breakfast on the Lani. Work is continuing next door.
Their is no papaya on my plate.
As I was reading the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel I notice something about my beautiful coffee cup. The only way I can enjoy the beauty is to drink with my right hand.
Really! That is not fair. They say one of the problems with the elderly is that they can't adapted to change. How many times have you heard this? Well I got news for all you righties. Left handed people have been adapting all their lives, so we (lefties) adapted better as we age.
We got an early start to whale watching today. We watched a long boarder paddling.
I know he is hard to see. You do know you can click on the picture to make it larger. A diving class was just entering the water.
After two hours of sitting by the ocean, we went back to our condo. Time to decide what to do. Clela said lets get dressed up and go out and have lunch at Dukes. Going out to our car it started to rain, yes rain. You remember we were going to Dukes on Valentines Day and we canceled because of rain. After a short walk next door we arrived in the rain.
We ordered Dukes Lemonade to start.
I say who is that old man in his Tommy Bahama shirt.
I ordered a Mac Nut encrusted fish sandwich.
Hey, my dish matched my shirt. Clela ordered a fish taco.
Matchy, matchy. You do know after living together you tend to dress similar. I just don't understand why she won't get matching outfits from Hilo Hattie. The food was great and we did make it to Dukes after all.
We got back to our condo and after listing to our story, we went down to the grass area, in the shade to read and rest. The wind was blowing and it was cold. We sat there and it was cold, I had goose bumps. Sorry I do realize this is not cold. If you want cold come to Wisconsin. Okay cold by Maui standards. We got up and found two lounge chairs in the sun by the ocean. You could feel the warmth on you body. I mean hot, hot, smok'in hot. We sat there with my legs burning, I mean hot. Okay off we went to the small pool. We did our swimming and got out with a cold breeze blowing. We dried off on the run and went up to our condo.
For supper we tried something new. Some of us oldies do try something new. We grilled our hamburgers out side and had cheese burgers.
This was our sunset.
See ya!

2015 Day 20 Papaya
Day 20 Papaya
Monday was a very refreshing day as all days since Valentines Day.
Always a good start to the day, good coffee and a great breakfast. I have been under the weather the last couple of days. Did you notice every morning I had a papaya for fruit.
Did you know you can get very sick from eating too much papaya. I would start feeling ill around noon and by supper I didn't want to eat. I thought I was coming down with something. I thought it was the cheese I had in my sandwich. Clela thought it was some of my medication. Papaya has lots of fiber. Now that can be good if you need some fiber and bad if you are getting to much. Well folks, I don't think you will be seeing papaya too much on my plate in the morning.
Monday, it must be the farmers market. Your right! We just went for bananas. The humanity was high, thus we had a slow walk both ways. After arriving back at our resort we decided to go sea glass hunting.
So after lunch and our story, we packed up and off we went. Didn't I tell you after lunch we listen to a story. I can't say on tape, we have done that, on CD, no but we have done that, but on a IPod. We're such a techie family.
I can't wait until I get home so I can try some different techniques on these pictures. Anyway we found some shells, small ones but shells. Katie was hoping we would find some. This is a first for us.
There is a woman who comes to this beach with her dog. She wears a blue cover up and a hat. She is always talking on her phone. As she walks to the water she finds a stick so she can play fetch with her dog. This dog goes crazy with anticipation. The dogs loves the water and flies in to fetch the stick. You know I think I remember her last year. After about a half hour of playing fetch, she walks back to her car still talking on her phone. Sometimes the dog hasn't had its fill of fetch and he stays on the beach. Just about the time she gets to her car he starts barking at the waters edge. He won't move until she comes back still talking on the phone and they start the process all over again. Here is a small sample of their play.
That's our day, I hope I'm feeling better tomorrow. So I'll say see ya!
