We looked at the weather and decided our best day to go to Lanai was yesterday. I really didn't know what to expect. I did know a rich dude own the Island. We boarded the ferry on time. Very interesting group of people. You had people who had money, you know women with the big hats and men in polos. A lot of people with golf clubs.
Lots of whales breeching. Ok, ok, no whale pics. Upon reaching the island I took some pics from inside the boat so I am sorry for the quality.
These two people are the rich ones.
If you click on the picture you will see a small.
Yes you are looking at the harbor. When we got off our guide was waiting for us. He had a sign RUETERS. Made us feel special. I think the best part of the tour was talking to the guide, he was a man with many different jobs. He was Hawaiian language teacher, he has an masters degree in that, a tour guide, a Fed x driver. Here is some more pics of the island.
His mothers house.
Coffee shop.
One of the three resorts on the island. Now that was Lanai city. You seen it all. Here is the some of the country side.
Yes we are off road.
We are now entering "The Garden Of The Gods".
That's our tour guide as we enter the garden.
A mythical battle took place here.
Next we went down to the beach. It was like driving up north on fire lane roads. Trees on each side and driving on mud and sand. My little Ford would be lost in some of these puddles or should I say lakes. Just kidding.
The guy was fishing with a net.
Click on this pic. What you are seeing is a ship wreck. It is a cargo ship that got caught up on a reef during World War 2. The ship had an inner core of cement. Yes cement.
Click on this pic. You will see two guys pulling a boat. They are looking for octopus. Their fishing gear is a stick. They stick it in hole to get the octopus comes out of its hole, they grab it and that's it. Octopus for supper.
Here is some news for you, when you book a snorkeling trip to the shores of Lanai, they pull into the harbor, park the boat in a slip and you have to walk in the heat two blocks to this beach. Now that's great. So a word to the wise. This is a public beach, well sort of. The Four Seasons Resort that you see in the back ground run it.
You will have to click on this pic to see some of the big houses, they are to the left. Larry Ellison, who owns the island has a home here. I asked our guide how could someone buy an Hawaiian Island. He also wanted to know. Ellison bought the island from Murdoch. Ellison has big plans for the island. One of the things he wants to do is make the island self supporting. The biggest crop and the only crop was pineapple. Well that's gone now. Well that's it for yesterday. You notice I didn't make fun of what we saw. These people are hardworking good people who like us want only better things for there kids. See ya.
